|Troubleshooting the KEP MiniTrol|
The following relates to Kessler-Ellis MiniTrol models. These are identified
by the starting letters of MC, MR, MRT.
Customer complaint - I've got the unit all wired up to a flowmeter and nothing is happening. The display is not showing any counts with fluid going through the meter.
The normal troubleshooting approach is to isolate the flowmeter from the MiniTrol and test the MiniTrol as a separate item.
1. Remove the wire which is attached to terminal #5. If there is a wire coming to terminal #6, other than a jumper between 5 & 6, remove it also.
2. Look in the MiniTrol manual at page 11. This page shows how to set the scaling factors, if you have an older manual, the page number will be different - look in the index.
Follow the step sequence until it shows the scaling factor for Channel A. Make a note of what the number is, and using the keypads under the numbers, change the factor to 1.
3. Using a piece of wire, a paperclip will work, touch between terminals 5 & 7 (Input and 12 VDC supply). Every time the circuit is made, the display should advance a count. Normally, you don't make a solid contact and the display will jump several counts.
If the display does not register any counts, the MiniTrol has a problem ... call us.
If the display registers any counts, the MiniTrol is probably in good condition.
Return the scaling factor to what it was previously and reconnect the wires.
Customer complaint - My MiniTrol seems to be working, but the transmitter it is connected to is not giving me a pulse.
Question #1 - Is the MiniTrol providing the correct voltage to the transmitter?
Connect a DC voltmeter between terminal (7) which is marked +12 VDC (but is actually about 18.5 VDC) and terminal (8) which is ground. If 18.5 VDC is present, the problem is either in the flow meter transmitter or the connecting wires.
